You’ve probably heard some facts about Haiti. You’ve heard that it’s one of the poorest countries in the world, that it’s constantly devastated by natural disasters, that it’s dangerous and that they need help to rebuild, to overcome their situation and to move forward.
The truth is the opposite : Haiti doesn’t need your help
With upwards of 10,000 nongovernmental organizations (NGOs) operating within its borders, Haiti is known as the Republic of NGOs. Yet despite the billions of aid dollars invested in Haiti’s development, this island nation still has an unemployment rate of 40 percent and ranks as one of the poorest countries in the world.
Haiti has more than enough “help”… to the point that it’s not actually helpful
What’s happened is a bunch of “hand outs” from people who think they know how to “help”. They’re outsiders from another country with no experience on the ground yet they think they know what’s best for Haiti. They “think” but they don’t “know” and in that small difference there’s a huge impact… and it’s not positive or helpful
See, Haiti and Haitians have everything they need to help themselves. It’s an amazing country filled with strong people who have endured generations of turmoil, devastation and conflict yet they persevere and want to keep persevering.. on their own with your “help”
Which is great news for you!
Visiting Haiti as a tourist is the best way to support (not help) Haiti… and that’s exactly what we’re doing
This LIVE A GREAT STORY_Haiti trip is all about truly experiencing Haiti. It’s a gorgeous country both culturally and geographically and we’re going to explore all of it. Between exploring the intricacies of the city, supporting businesses in their mission of empowering a next generation of business owners and soaking up the culture and history this trip will positively impact the country…. but it will also have a huge impact on your life.
There’s just something amazing about the rugged authenticity of Haiti.
In the U.S. everything is up to code, standardized, planned and organized. Life happens fairly consistently and predictably… and this impacts how we live our life. We get into routine, the same-same day after day, slowly sliding into comfort and familiarity. But visiting Haiti where there aren’t really rules, things happen on “island time” and the only predictability is unpredictability forces us into a different perspective, different appreciation, different different different.
Haiti is a magical place… and it will change your life
